The Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul is asking for the prosecution of all the 76, 286 Togolese<\/strong> <\/a>citizens\u00a0<\/span>whose names and pictures allegedly appear in Ghana\u2019s voter register.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Minority Leader said prosecution of such individuals will end the influx of foreigners registering to vote in Ghana\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”MhMcdsgcjcyYS4cuJzYUK3R1kcXloMhG”]The NPP at a news conference in Accra on Wednesday revealed that over 70,000 Togolese have their names in Ghana\u2019s register.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> Dominic Nitiwul insists that the NDC stands to gain if the register is not changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will not wait for a Togolese to determine who should become my president; I would rather die to wait for that to happen,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Dominic Nitiwul further called on the Electoral Commission to find the said Togolese and\u00a0 have them punished insisting that \u201clet\u2019s punish them, if we punish them, I believe clearly that it will serve as deterrent to others. If we just leave it like that, when there is a new voter\u2019s register, they will come back so let us look for them and jail them.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also \u201caccused the NDC that they are benefitting from this, I know they\u2019ve benefited in Nkwanta North. All the places that recorded these anomalies are NDC constituencies and I think that is why they are rejecting the new voters register.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the NDC have dismissed calls for a new voters register describing the<\/span> NPP\u2019s claims as \u201cbaseless.<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC, \u201cas far as we [NDC] are concerned this claim is a continuation of the NPPs long standing affinity to tribal politics through which they associate people from certain ethnic and tribal extraction with wrongdoing and heap unsavory comments on them. This is unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n
