{"id":144708,"date":"2015-08-19T17:23:44","date_gmt":"2015-08-19T17:23:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=144708"},"modified":"2015-08-19T17:23:44","modified_gmt":"2015-08-19T17:23:44","slug":"fix-voters-register-before-district-assembly-elections-npp-member-tells-ec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=144708","title":{"rendered":"Fix voters&#8217; register before District Assembly Elections &#8211; NPP Member tells EC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The District Assembly Elections scheduled for <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/19\/ec-to-hold-district-assembly-elections-on-september-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">September 1<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, is likely to suffer another setback as a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) is threatening to go to court over the voters register.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Mr. Dominic Nsiah Asare, the elections could only be allowed to go ahead if the Electoral Commission tackles the major flaws identified \u00a0by the NPP \u00a0that shows that the voters\u2019 register is bloated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;BJGZulbtG6Av0hS0AXwekjOqUUfb5Ymq&#8221;]The NPP has petitioned the EC for a revision of the voters\u2019 register, a the governing\u00a0NDC has described as unfounded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But speaking to Citi News, Dominic Nsiah Asare maintains that the Electoral Commission must work to clear all doubts before proceeding with the election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t think the voters\u2019 register can be used for any other thing because if what they (the NPP) have submitted comes out to be true, it means the voters\u2019 register is incomplete and cannot be used to conduct any election in this country, until they come out with their conclusion on the register, they can\u2019t use the register to conduct any election,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf the electoral commission still insists that September 1<sup>st<\/sup> elections should still take place, then maybe some few days to the election, we will put an injunction on the election so that it cannot be held just as it was done in the first time,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If the injunction is upheld, it will be the second time this year\u2019s District Assembly elections would have been suspended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The election which was initially slated for March 3 2015, was suspended in February when an aspiring assemblyman, Benjamin\u00a0Eyi Mensah <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/09\/fisherman-sues-ec-district-assembly-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\">dragged the EC to court<\/a><\/span><\/strong> after he was denied the opportunity to file his nomination forms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EC later sent to Parliament, a new legislation to enable it run\u00a0the District Assembly Elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The law meant to regulate the conduct of the election, Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 89, <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/10\/law-for-district-assembly-elections-matures-today\/\" target=\"_blank\">matured on June 10, 2015.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The District Assembly Elections scheduled for September 1, is likely to suffer another setback as a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) is threatening to go to court over the voters register.
