The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia has revealed that 177 Cuban doctors are getting ready to fly to Ghana to support health care delivery as the doctors’ strike enters week three.<\/p>\n

Mr Segbefia\u00a0has also stated that government will retain \u201call the Cuban doctors who have completed their rotations and were programmed to leave for Cuba anytime soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Minister, the move forms part of measures by the government “to protect life and restore normalcy” within the health sector which has been affected by the strike.<\/p>\n
Members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) are on a strike over\u00a0codified terms of conditions of service.<\/p>\n
Their action was extended by two weeks<\/a><\/strong><\/span> last Friday after a crunch general assembly meeting by the GMA.<\/p>\n Scores of people are believed to have died<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as a result of the strike, but the Ghana Medical Association has disputed<\/a><\/strong><\/span> media reports that the death toll has reached about 500.<\/p>\n Government’s decision to bring the Cuban doctors is part of plans to mitigate the effects of the doctors’ strike.<\/p>\n Earlier, the Ministry released a list of hospitals<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that are still operating despite the strike.<\/p>\n
