{"id":143451,"date":"2015-08-14T16:16:18","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T16:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=143451"},"modified":"2015-08-14T16:17:33","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T16:17:33","slug":"ghanaian-refugee-names-daughter-after-german-chancellor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=143451","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaian refugee names daughter after German chancellor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has a new namesake: a refugee\u2019s baby from Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The baby Angela Merkel Ade was born on 2 February and lives with her mother and 730 other asylum seekers in a former hospital that was turned into a refugee shelter in Hanover, the German news agency DPA reported.<\/p>\n<p>Angela\u2019s 26-year-old mother, Ophelya Ade, was quoted as saying that she chose her daughter\u2019s name because the German chancellor \u201cis a very good woman, I like her\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rules for name-giving in Germany are very strict, and last names cannot usually be used as first or middle names.<\/p>\n<p>City spokesman Alexis Demos couldn\u2019t immediately tell the Associated Press why Angela Merkel was accepted as a first name.<\/p>\n<p>Last month Merkel, the chancellor, had an emotional encounter with a Palestinian teenager which left her momentarily speechless and went viral.<\/p>\n<p>Merkel was unable to adequately explain to the girl, Reem, why she faced the threat of deportation, but rubbed her shoulder as she sobbed.<\/p>\n<p>German officials subsequently said the girl would be allowed to stay in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: The Guardian<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has a new namesake: a refugee\u2019s baby from Ghana.
