Leaders from around the world including France, Gabon, Togo, Benin, the\u00a0Democratic Republic of Congo and the Gulf States, along with a high profile\u00a0European delegation were also in attendance.<\/p>\n
The Suez Canal is an important maritime route and the newly inaugurated canal\u00a0is expected to significantly cut the travel time of vessels to Europe and Africa.<\/p>\n Whilst in Cairo, Vice President Amissah-Arthur met with President Mahamadou\u00a0Issoufou of Niger.<\/p>\n They reviewed the regional peace and security situation as well as the ECOWAS\u00a0single monetary integration and the benefits to be derived. They also discussed\u00a0new initiatives to speed up the convergence process.<\/p>\n President Issoufou and President John Mahama are jointly mandated by\u00a0ECOWAS to supervise the single currency convergence process.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Vice President also met with President Faure Gnassingb\u00e9 of Togo.<\/p>\n They\u00a0discussed the political situation in their respective countries as well as measures\u00a0to deal with threats to the peace and security of the sub-region.<\/p>\n Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Amissah-Arthur held meetings with the President and\u00a0Chairman of the Board of the African Export \u2013 Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), Mr\u00a0Jean-Louis Ekra, and other senior officials of the Bank.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
