It could also be because residents of Cantonments hardly experience the energy crisis popularly called &#8220;dumsor,&#8221; unlike residents of, say, Chorkor.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18879\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18878\">As Ghanaians continue to endure crippling power cuts, everyone has a\u00a0dumsor\u00a0story\u2014loss of business, unemployment, undone homework, unplanned pregnancy, and so on. Every now and then, people report the situation is getting better or worse\u2014depending on where they live.\u00a0 So, until now, the big picture has been dark. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18883\"><i id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18884\">The Dumsor Report<\/i>\u00a0is the first scientific analysis of load-shedding patterns as experienced by consumers. Researchers selected respondents from 32 areas of Accra (based on ECG\u2019s last published schedule) to report each time their power went on or off between April 28 to May 11, 2015. Analysis of the data shows the following results:<\/p>\n<ul id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18882\">\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18881\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18880\">Ridge in Accra is at the top of the table, with 329 out of 336 possible hours of power (98%) while\u00a0Chorkor, at the bottom, with 103 out of 336 (31%).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0average\u00a0area had power\u00a057%\u00a0of the time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Ministries had the longest period of &#8220;sor&#8221; (power): 326 hours (13.5 days).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>From May 5 to 8,\u00a0Pokuase ACP\u00a0went into extra time with\u00a074 hours of &#8220;dum,&#8221; (lights out).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Weija Old Barrier\u00a0had\u00a038 disco lights\u00a0(frequency of on\/off) while Ministries had only one off, which lasted 10 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0brightest day\u00a0was\u00a0May 2\u00a0when<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>71%\u00a0of the total possible amount of power was provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The darkest day was\u00a0April 28<b>\u00a0<\/b>when\u00a047%\u00a0of the total possible amount of power was provided.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The brightest hour was between\u00a06p.m.<b>\u00a0<\/b>and<b>\u00a0<\/b>7p.m<b>.<\/b>\u00a0on\u00a0May 4<b>\u00a0<\/b>when only\u00a016%\u00a0were in DUM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18898\">\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18897\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18896\">The darkest hour was from\u00a06p.m<b>.\u00a0<\/b>to<b>\u00a0<\/b>7p.m<b>.<\/b>\u00a0on\u00a0May 7\u00a0when\u00a086%<b>\u00a0<\/b>were in DUM.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18894\">\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18893\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18892\">Thirteen times, ECG\u00a0<i>sha\u2019d the body<\/i>\u00a0(pretended) of consumers with less than one hour of light. The shortest was for\u00a0Laterbiokoshie\u00a0on May 2, when the light came on for\u00a035 seconds\u00a0and went back to DUM for 34 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18891\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18890\">&#8220;The data quantify three main aspects to the dumsor crisis: shortage, uncertainty<b>, <\/b>and inequality,&#8221; says Kobina Aidoo, the report&#8217;s author. &#8220;While the shortage is known by all and the uncertainty is experienced by most, the inequality in distribution is an eye-opener. We did not find a\u00a0clear\u00a0pattern linking power supply to affluence but it is insightful to see\u00a0that some of the areas where most people can afford generators are getting three times as much electricity as the areas where most people can&#8217;t. Thus, this crisis is worsening inequality in Ghana. We can&#8217;t increase supply overnight, but we can certainly improve certainty and equality,&#8221; he adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the study, industry expert Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby says the\u00a0findings show\u00a0that\u00a0&#8220;the only schedule that matters is where ECG thinks it will get paid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Dumsor Report allows Ghanaians to begin to analyze these patterns with hard data rather than just anecdotes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18905\">The report is in the form of six main charts:<\/p>\n<ul id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18902\">\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18904\">Summary infographic<\/li>\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18903\">Timeline of on\/off for each area<\/li>\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18907\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18906\">Timeline of the total amount of power received by consumers for the period<\/span><\/li>\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18936\">Ranking of amount of power received<\/li>\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1438856674143_18908\">Ranking of frequency of on\/off<\/li>\n<li
