The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has rejected claims that the impounded motorbikes will end up back of the streets of Accra.<\/p>\n
Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno was responding to allegations that the owners of the bikes will be let off the hook after paying some amount of money.<\/p>\n
This follows a Police special operation on Tuesday in which over 1,000 motorbikes were impounded.<\/p>\n
The affected motorbikes included \u2018Okada\u2019 riders and motorbikes of courier companies.<\/p>\n
All motorbikes, together with those that have valid documentation from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), were also impounded.<\/p>\n
Owners of the bikes are currently undergoing screening at various divisional commands across the Metropolis.<\/p>\n
DCOP Yohuno however told Citi News<\/strong> in an interview that after screening, only those innocent of any illegality will be released<\/p>\n \u201cThose who are genuine will come back but those that we know have criminal intentions, we will disable them [motorbikes] so that we don\u2019t have them on the streets because if you are not there, you cannot be able to walk effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n He noted that the motorbikes \u201care the legs that they sue to run very fast.
