{"id":138463,"date":"2015-07-28T12:19:21","date_gmt":"2015-07-28T12:19:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=138463"},"modified":"2015-07-28T12:57:08","modified_gmt":"2015-07-28T12:57:08","slug":"gunman-in-mahamas-church-jailed-10-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=138463","title":{"rendered":"Gunman in Mahama\u2019s church jailed 10 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The gunman\u00a0who said he had wanted to assassinate President John Mahama has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suspect, Charles Antwi\u00a0was arrested last Sunday for wielding a loaded and cocked pistol at the Ringway Gospel Centre branch of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra where President Mahama worships.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/charles-antwi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-138467\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/charles-antwi.jpg\" alt=\"charles antwi\" width=\"600\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/charles-antwi.jpg 564w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/charles-antwi-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 36-old-man according to the charge sheet was \u201cfidgety\u201d and looked \u201csuspicious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A witness in this case who was also in the church spotted the accused, and when a search was conducted on him, a locally made pistol and two rounds of ammunition were found on him,&#8221; the charge sheet stated adding that Charles Antwi &#8220;admitted ownership of the gun and said that he bought it from a national of Burkina Faso in Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;rS1VoT0dIszhPLpdJMPGAZ3uCssw70dK&#8221;]Charles Antwi has been charged with unlawful possession of fire arm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He\u00a0pleaded guilty to the charge proferred against him in court on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Charles Antwi had told the court presided over by\u00a0Justice Francis Obiri that becoming president is his birth right hence his resolve &#8220;<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/28\/i-wanted-to-kill-mahama-gunman-confesses\/\" target=\"_blank\">to kill president Mahama<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said he was destined to &#8220;be\u00a0sworn in as president when president John Evans Atta Mills died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further insisted that \u201ctrying to kill the president was a way of fighting for the nation\u201d explaining that the \u201cnation\u2019s current electoral system is not helping to improve its democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
