\u201cIf we have to visit the criminal code in the sense that where two or three are gathered with a common purpose, that one can be considered as unlawful assembly but we have still not decided on what to do with that aspect.\u201d<\/p>\n
She however said the Police are yet to sit down to take a decision on the matter.<\/p>\n
Two armoured vehicles<\/strong><\/p>\n Explaining the heavy Police presence at the premises of the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department, ASP Tenge said it was necessary because one can never underrate the strength of people.<\/p>\n \u201cLook at the numbers here and you can never underrate the strength or power of people who have gathered so our presence here is only to ensure that people do not breach the law and also take the law into their own hands to cause mayhem or to damage properties,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n According to her, in every crowd control, there are certain equipment used by the Police to ensure law and order and although she did not see the armoured vehicle and the pepper spray vehicle, \u201cthey were all measures that have been devised to ensure that in case people want to endanger lives and destroy properties, we will be in a better position to handle the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n Background<\/strong><\/p>\n About 35 junior doctors pitched camp at the Controller and Accountant General\u2019s Department to demand the payment of the 11-month salary arrears.<\/p>\n A number of Police personnel were deployed to the area to maintain law and order but after public criticisms, the two armoured vehicles were returned to the Regional Police Command.<\/p>\n Ghana\u2019s Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) Section 202 states:<\/p>\n (1) Whoever takes part in an unlawful assembly shall be guilty of a misdemeanour.<\/p>\n (2) Whoever takes part in an unlawful assembly armed with any offensive weapon or missile shall be guilty of second degree felony.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana![\"junior](\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/junior-doctors-picket-at-controller-21.jpg\")
