A heavy rainstorm has displaced about 180 people in four communities in the Afigya-Kwabre district in the\u00a0Ashanti region.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0 number of buildings, including a chief\u2019s palace and a cocoa shed, had either their roofing ripped off,\u00a0 or walls collapsed, under the impact of the storm.<\/p>\n
In all, eight people were hurt by flying debris, and had to receive treatment at the Boamang Hospital<\/p>\n
Mr Kwaku Kaakyire Oppong-Kyekyeku,\u00a0 District Chief Executive (DCE), and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya-Kwabre North, Nana Marfo Amaniampong, on Tuesday, jointly visited the affected communities to assess the extent of\u00a0 damage.<\/p>\n
They were accompanied by officials at the district office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).<\/p>\n
A 40-year-old victim, Madam Theresa Anokye, said it was just through miracle that she survived\u00a0 with her five children at her kitchen where they had ran to, to take shelter.<\/p>\n
Another victim, Madam Yaa Dede, said she sustained a deep cut in the left arm by a flying roofing sheet, when she attempted to escape from her collapsed house.<\/p>\n
Many of the affected residents are now living with relatives, while some have taken temporary accommodation in a mosque.<\/p>\n
The DCE conveyed his sympathy to the victims, and assured them that everything possible would be done to assist them.<\/p>\n
He urged the people to engage qualified artisans, and ensure the use of quality materials and in their right quantities, for the construction of their houses.<\/p>\n
Nana Amaniampong pledged to collaborate with the district assembly and NADMO, to supply the affected people with relief items.<\/p>\n
