{"id":136414,"date":"2015-07-22T06:45:49","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T06:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=136414"},"modified":"2015-07-21T17:15:23","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T17:15:23","slug":"ghanas-exim-bank-to-be-operational-in-2016-seth-tekper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=136414","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s EXIM bank to be operational in 2016 \u2013 Seth Tekper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister of Finance, Seth Tekper has announced that Ghana\u2019s Export-Import Bank (EXIM) will be operational in 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;NWAcaWl8CxtOa7PgJeuUzQpPypODjrbP&#8221;]According to him, a draft bill has been prepared for consideration by Cabinet and will be submitted to Parliament in due course.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe expect the Bank to be operational by 2016 and will help address the challenge of long-term credit for exporters,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Finance Minister made this known when he presented the Mid-year Review of the 2015 Budget to Parliament on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President John Mahama has stated that the establishment of a Ghana Export and Import Bank (EXIM) will move the country from import-dependent to a large-scale exporter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said it will also bridge the imbalances between trade and infrastructural development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Mahama has received a report from the\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/07\/mahama-sets-taskforce-oversee-exim-bank-establishment\/\" target=\"_blank\">Special Task Force<\/a><\/strong><\/span> commissioned to to carry out feasibility studies for the establishment of the Bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, some economist <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/11\/exim-bank-will-not-solve-export-challenges-gatsi\/\" target=\"_blank\">have cast doubts<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on the establishment of the EXIM bank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They argued that\u00a0the establishment of the bank will not necessarily address the needs of all exporters in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
