{"id":136360,"date":"2015-07-21T14:44:26","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T14:44:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=136360"},"modified":"2015-07-21T14:45:23","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T14:45:23","slug":"eastern-region-ges-defends-chalk-headmistress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=136360","title":{"rendered":"Eastern region GES defends &#8216;chalk&#8217; headmistress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has jumped to the defense of the headmistress of the Kukurantumi Presby School describing her request for chalk as a nothing out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Relation Officer of the Directorate, Emmanuel Asiedu Acheampong, justified the request saying, the headmistress should not be blamed for asking what the school needed.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;ZtDrSVwQGTukpUNxu71v7cW7nThaWgM7&#8243;]The headmistress of Kukurantumi Presby School is currently being investigated after she asked the wife of the Vice President, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur to provide her school with boxes of chalk and other educational materials.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/16\/weve-pampered-you-with-too-many-goodies-second-lady-blasts-headmistress\/\" target=\"_blank\">Second Lady\u2019s harsh response<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to the request was widely criticized<\/p>\n<p>It however prompted individuals, groups and even the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to donate large quantities of chalk to the school.<\/p>\n<p>According to the GES, the conduct of the headmistress is being investigated because her school had early on been provided with 42 boxes of chalk.<\/p>\n<p>The acting Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GES, Reverend Jonathan Bettey\u00a0mentioned that\u00a0available documents show that the school had <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/20\/chalk-headmistress-under-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\">recently been provided with 42 packs of chalk.<\/a> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>But Mr. Acheampong in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong> said there could be a number of factors which may have caused the headmistress to make that request.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat incident where the school authorities had to probably make that request might probably depend on some factors beyond their control,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastern Regional GES PRO explained that it may have happened that \u201cin the course of distribution, the item may not have been available at the time they needed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Acheampong remarked that it is common knowledge that the nation has \u201cinadequacies in all sectors so let\u2019s say if they requested for 10 boxes and they got 6, it will get to a point where probably there will be that need to request for more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t run away from the facts that sometimes, the things are inadequate,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<br \/>\n<a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/osamidan\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @osamidan<\/a><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Eastern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has jumped to the defense of the headmistress of the Kukurantumi Presby School describing her request for chalk as a nothing out of the ordinary.
