{"id":136291,"date":"2015-07-21T10:04:55","date_gmt":"2015-07-21T10:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=136291"},"modified":"2015-07-21T10:04:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-21T10:04:55","slug":"accreditation-board-approves-engineering-degrees-at-ashesi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=136291","title":{"rendered":"Accreditation Board approves Engineering Degrees at Ashesi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana National Accreditation Board has granted programme accreditation for Ashesi University College to offer degrees in Computer Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Developed over two and a half years, Ashesi\u2019s engineering majors will be the first major addition to the university\u2019s academic programmes since 2005.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a moment that caps two and a half years of focused effort to lay the foundation for an engineering programme at Ashesi,\u201d said Ashesi President, Patrick Awuah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also marks a beginning for us, as we start recruiting our pioneer class of engineering students for September 2015, and set off on a journey of design, tinkering and innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11725297_10153561585144744_1571846360_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-136294 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11725297_10153561585144744_1571846360_o-e1437472977697.jpg\" alt=\"11725297_10153561585144744_1571846360_o\" width=\"650\" height=\"253\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ashesi\u2019s new engineering majors, by placing emphasis on hands-on learning, entrepreneurship, design and problem solving, will equip students with skills to create long-term solutions to Africa\u2019s engineering challenges and deploy better-designed infrastructure for local needs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11770587_10153561581099744_244158800_o-e1437473054994.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-136295\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11770587_10153561581099744_244158800_o-e1437473054994.jpg\" alt=\"11770587_10153561581099744_244158800_o\" width=\"650\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In May of 2015, construction teams at Ashesi also handed over keys to a new engineering building on the University\u2019s campus in Berekuso, which will house engineering labs, classrooms and faculty offices.<\/p>\n<p>As a pioneer in liberal arts education in Africa, Ashesi\u2019s world-class teaching model has inspired many universities across the continent.
