The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region has said the Second Lady<\/a>‘s apology<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 for her infamous \u201cchalk\u201d comment, though welcomed, is still not enough.<\/p>\n

They argued that the Second Lady\u2019s apology will not provide teachers with chalk and other basic teaching materials.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”e98cOneYkH1ovgWMLxL1gZZjlBKf0lFD”]The NPP last Friday donated chalk and other materials to some 17 schools in the Eastern Region after Mrs. Amissah-Arthur scolded a head teacher for asking government to provide them with those materials.<\/p>\n

The NPP as well as several other pressure groups descended heavily on the second Lady<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and asked\u00a0her to apologise.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News,<\/strong>\u00a0the Youth Organiser of the NPP in the Eastern Region, \u00a0Jerry Osei Poku accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of not prioritising education.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf her [Mrs. Amissah-Arthur] conscience has led to her current position on the matter, we leave it to the good people of this country to judge. She and the NDC government which her husband is part should note that our teachers must be respected at all times; they are destroying the future of our children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Osei Poku said, \u201cIf you have a government that consistently refuse to give schools the basic things that they need but rather choose to share things like oversize school uniforms and shoes to children then it\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n

The NPP Youth Organiser also deflated arguments that his party was engaging in cheap politics when it donated the items to the school.<\/p>\n

He said “we have been talking about this thing, all along. I have always been on radio in the region, trumpeting this, but all to no avail.\u00a0It was just the incident that sparked this whole issue up.”<\/p>\n

“We realized that after we did our donation, several other institutions including NDC and the District Chief Executive of the East Akyem Municipality shamefully went there to donate chalk. So the government must begin to show responsibility and leadership, they have failed in that regard and the NPP as a political party is prepared to show leadership,\u201d Osei Poku added.<\/p>\n

In a related development, the NPP had alleged that the headteacher of the Kukurantumi Presby school whose comment provoked the second lady was being victimised<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>by the Ghana Education Service (GES).<\/p>\n
