Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has dismissed assertions that all governments since 1992 have failed to reform the country\u2019s educational system.<\/p>\n

The ex-President argued that during his tenure as President from 2000 to 2008, the educational sector underwent major restructuring, notable amongst them, the introduction of the four-year Senior High School (SHS) policy.<\/p>\n

This response comes on the back of accusations on Citi FM’s<\/strong> news analysis programme, the Big Issue<\/strong>, that all four Presidents under the Fourth Republic; John Rawlings, John Kufour, John Mills and John Mahama, have\u00a0deliberately schemed<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0to keep Ghanaians in perpetual poverty.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”cZjOGX3c1iEQNONvUZ4pX61H6wPioNIo”]The President of Innovative Teachers, Ghana, Stephen Desu, who made the comment, said the grand scheme is being carried out by their deliberate refusal to reform the education sector to develop the human resource of the nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe four Johns that we have seen, I think that is the agenda they have prosecuted and it has not stopped,\u201d he claimed.<\/p>\n

But the Spokesperson for former President Kufuor disagreed with Stephen Desu\u2019s assertion.<\/p>\n

Frank Agyekum told Citi News<\/strong>, \u201cI disagree with him entirely. I disagree with him as far as President Kufuor is concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to him, the educational policies that were put in place during President Kufuor\u2019s tenure could pass as one of the best in the country.<\/p>\n

Frank Agyekum however indicated that perhaps, because ex-President Kufuor \u201cdid not raise the standards to the level that everybody expects,\u201d that may have accounted for his inclusion in the list of Johns who have disappointed the nation when it comes to education.<\/p>\n

Stressing on the four-year SHS introduced by the Kufuor administration, the ex-President\u2019s spokesperson said: \u201cI believe that anybody who looks at the four years under the Kufuor regime compared to the three years, everybody will agree that the four years was a much better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the four years, they came out more matured, they came out more competent, and the results showed that the pass rate during the four years was much higher than we have now.\u201d<\/p>\n
