The Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur has called on families to be heavily involved in the development of children.<\/p>\n
He was speaking at the launch of the child and family welfare policy on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Policy document is heralding a reformed child protection system in Ghana which is fully aligned with national and international principles.<\/p>\n
It also addresses and prevents harm to children; and is founded on positive traditional values inherent in the Ghanaian culture.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”PjooccE31XObx55H4tzu61YJ82P3ll9q”]Speaking at the launch of the policy Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur explained that analytical report of the 2010 Population and Housing Census notes that Ghana\u2019s population is youthful and therefore the need to groom the children arises.<\/p>\n
He added that the time has come for a new and a better system for child development to be implemented.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cour future lies in how well we protect our children and shape them into responsible adults.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Vice President called on all stakeholders to see to it that the policy is implemented and make it successful.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile the Minister of Gender Children and Social Protection Nana Oye Lithur indicated that systems have been put in place to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the policy.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of children in Ghana Josephine Dante; a student of Akropong School for the Blind expressed gratitude and optimism that \u201cthe policy would provide an equal opportunity for all manner of children including the disabled and vulnerable in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n
She finally appealed that \u201cgovernment ensures that adequate funds and other resources are provided\u201d for the successful implementation of this policy.<\/p>\n
