A\u00a0<\/b>36-year old Ghanaian\u00a0business woman has been\u00a0arrested for possessing 10\u00a0kilogrammes of a brownish\u00a0substance suspected to be\u00a0heroin.<\/p>\n
The suspect, Mercy Agyeman Prempeh,\u00a0was arrested at the Kotoka International\u00a0Airport (KIA) by officials of the Narcotics\u00a0Control Board (NACOB) on her arrival from\u00a0Tanzania.<\/p>\n
With a street value of $650,000, the drug\u00a0was wrapped in black plastic bags and\u00a0concealed in a secret compartment of a\u00a0travelling bag.<\/p>\n
According to the Deputy Executive\u00a0Secretary of NACOB, Nii Lantey Blankson,\u00a0officials of the board were on their usual\u00a0checks on passengers arriving from various\u00a0destinations at the KIA when they arrested\u00a0the suspect.<\/p>\n
He indicated that the woman was asked\u00a0to identify her bag at the baggage claim area\u00a0for checks because of where she was coming from.<\/p>\n
A thorough check on her bag, which\u00a0contained her personal belongings, led to\u00a0the discovery of the suspected banned substances.<\/p>\n
Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed\u00a0a Tanzanian friend had given her the drug to\u00a0be given to an unknown person in Accra for a fee of\u00a0$2,500.<\/p>\n
She insisted that the owner of the drug was\u00a0supposed to meet her at the airport with the said\u00a0amount but believed the person might have\u00a0absconded following her arrest.<\/p>\n
Nii Blankson warned all drug barons that NACOB officials were on high alert at all the entry and exit points of the country and that anyone who attempted to import or export drugs would be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n
