The death toll in the Bimbilla shooting incident which occurred last week Wednesday has risen to 13.<\/p>\n
Sporadic shooting in the township<\/strong><\/span><\/a> involving some butchers and guards from the Regent of Nanumba, resulted in the death and injury of over a dozen people including a 7-year-old boy.<\/p>\n The shooting was triggered by the refusal of some butchers to present a portion of their meat to the chief in the area as demanded by tradition.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”vzTOWCEJwhMVVPGhYLevAZUKGUj7Zzqo”]It took the intervention of a combined team of Police and Military personnel to bring the situation under control.<\/p>\n So far, eight suspects have been arrested<\/a><\/strong><\/span> although there were allegations by a faction in the town that the Police have the wrong persons in their custody.<\/p>\n But the Police in an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong> last Friday insisted that the true culprits<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>are the ones who have been arrested.<\/p>\n Speaking to Citi News,<\/strong> the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh explained that those who were being treated for gunshot wounds at the hospital were 11 but with one passing on, the number has reduced to 10.<\/p>\n He was however unable to tell whether some of them have been discharged.<\/p>\n He also said there is now\u00a0calm in the township and the curfew is still force.<\/p>\n \u201cSince it [curfew] was imposed, we have not heard any shooting or any incident,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n More arrests<\/strong><\/p>\n ASP Tetteh served notice that more arrests are expected to be made in connection to the violence.<\/p>\n According to him, investigations are still ongoing and the perpetrators will be brought to book.<\/p>\n \u201cAs and when it will be necessary for us to arrest more people, we will do so but we don\u2019t want it to be in the media before we make the arrests so we are going to make more arrests but I can\u2019t tell you when and how it will happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
