{"id":133668,"date":"2015-07-12T06:09:17","date_gmt":"2015-07-12T06:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=133668"},"modified":"2015-07-11T20:47:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-11T20:47:00","slug":"winner-takes-all-system-cause-of-electoral-violence-nunoo-mensah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=133668","title":{"rendered":"Winner-takes-all system cause of electoral violence \u2013 Nunoo-Mensah"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A former National Security Coordinator Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah retired says the winner-takes-all governance system is responsible for the political violence that occurs in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;dytzOIwmUnJPn2kprgVk7ZIYUs1iNR4N&#8221;]A by-election held at Talensi in the Upper East region last Tuesday ended with <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/07\/npp-ndc-clash-in-talensi-by-election\/\" target=\"_blank\">pockets of violence and gunshots<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Head of Human Security at the National Security Secretariat said the current system hinders the development of the nation, Ghanaians lack the courage to change it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe know that the system is not working well but we lack the courage to deal with the problems that we face. We know that whoever wins political power takes everything that goes with that and that is why there is too much violence with our politics. We are of the view that get political power and all other things shall be added unto it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added that another problem for the level of violence our political system \u201chas to do with the nature of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Winner takes all\u2019 dangerous for Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra Most Reverend Gabriel Palmer Buckle recently said if the winner-takes\u2013all system is not reformed to ensure inclusiveness and accountability, the country will struggle to progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe winner takes all has brought about a culture of polarization that if not addressed culturally and in the education sector, we run a risk of sitting on a cleavage that will leave us and this country in the shambles and we will all have ourselves to blame,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
