{"id":133131,"date":"2015-07-10T06:00:11","date_gmt":"2015-07-10T06:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=133131"},"modified":"2015-07-09T19:56:53","modified_gmt":"2015-07-09T19:56:53","slug":"minority-mps-tried-to-stop-loan-agreements-but-akoto-osei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=133131","title":{"rendered":"Minority MPs tried to stop loan agreements but &#8230; &#8211; Akoto Osei"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minority spokesperson on Finance, Dr. Anthony Akoto Osei has indicated that Minority Members of Parliament (MPs) are always outnumbered during the vote to approve loan agreements.<\/p>\n<p>He has thus urged Ghanaians not to accuse Minority MPs of failing to prevent government from contracting more loans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Parliament approves a budget, we expect government to live by it and at the end, it comes to vote by the majority so when you are saying your MPs, don\u2019t generalize because the MPs of the government side are not helping the government cut waste because we have consistently said that there is waste in the system but at the end of the day, it will come to vote and we are outvoted,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;ig4ECMPklsGaA8NSSK2SZVlRTzhg3pbJ&#8221;]Parliament is set to approve <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/09\/mps-to-approve-more-loans-despite-growing-public-debt\/\" target=\"_blank\">about six loan agreements<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to support the financing of the 2015 budget.<\/p>\n<p>This development has angered many who are of the view that the Minority MPs are failing Ghanaians by consenting to the approval of these loans which are increasing Ghana\u2019s debt stock to GDP which is now almost 70%.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Finance has however given the assurance that the nation\u2019s rising debt is under control and that the country will not go HIPC.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Dr. Akoto Osei bemoaned the country\u2019s governance system which gives more powers to the majority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, our system of governance is by majority rule.
