The Ghana Employers Association is engaging stakeholders to help address the current unemployment rate in the country.<\/p>\n
This follows the Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER)\u00a0 assertion that Ghana<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>is sitting on a time bomb due to the growing unemployment rate in the country.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”NHx7YEuoLm54uLUko4TIXhycYZQVxFKf”]The ISSER indicated that about 200,000 unemployed graduates are in the country.<\/p>\n The Chief Executive Officer of the Association, Alex Frimpong said \u201cnew businesses are not able to engage any worker because they are unable to cope with the difficulties in the economy and most importantly the need ..to ensure that they become competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n Another reason according to him, is because \u201cmacro economic environment becomes more and more challenging for businesses then the existing businesses are not able to expand and retool.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Frimpong stated that the stakeholder engagements will therefore devise directives on employing graduates after school.<\/p>\n \u201cWe asked the Ministry of Trades and Industry as well as the Attorney General\u2019s department to look out how we can come up with very stringent rules and regulations to make them very attractive\u201d<\/p>\n Graduates frustrated<\/strong><\/p>\n Meanwhile some unemployed graduates\u00a0who spoke to Citi News<\/strong> said they have been struggling to get by.<\/p>\n One said: \u201cI have been searching but there is no job. If you go they will tell you there is a vacancy but we cant pay you so it is better you come and sit down. They shouldn\u2019t look up to government, they should sit up.”<\/p>\n \u201cI completed school four years now but I have not been working so the government should see to it that the youth get a job to do.It is very difficult.
