{"id":131466,"date":"2015-07-04T16:07:49","date_gmt":"2015-07-04T16:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=131466"},"modified":"2015-07-04T16:37:11","modified_gmt":"2015-07-04T16:37:11","slug":"photos-agbogbloshie-june-4-market-demolished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=131466","title":{"rendered":"[Photos]: Agbogbloshie June 4 market demolished"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has pulled down structures at the June 4 market near Agbogbloshie in Accra.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Pearl Ofori reported that the exercise began at 4am on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The affected traders told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> they were not given prior notice of the demolition. Some narrated that they had to rush to the market at dawn to pack some of their wares.<\/p>\n<p>The traders watched on helplessly as the bulldozers flattened their stalls, while others were seen\u00a0rummaging through the debris to see what they could salvage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG-20150704-WA0009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-131462\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG-20150704-WA0009.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20150704-WA0009\" personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>The assembly has carried out a number of demolitions on the banks of the Odaw River and the Korle Lagoon to make way for the dredging and desilting of the two water bodies.<\/p>\n<p>The exercises were sanctioned following the devastating June 3 floods and fire which claimed over 150 lives and destroyed properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.<\/p>\n<p>Since the demolitions began, the AMA has faced stiff opposition from some government officials and residents of Old Fadama who were the worst affected.<\/p>\n<p><a
