{"id":131324,"date":"2015-07-04T07:11:33","date_gmt":"2015-07-04T07:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=131324"},"modified":"2015-07-04T08:08:12","modified_gmt":"2015-07-04T08:08:12","slug":"we-are-not-ghost-workers-teachers-decry-suspended-salaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=131324","title":{"rendered":"We are not ghost workers &#8211; Teachers decry suspended salaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The teachers whose June salaries have been frozen by the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) are accusing the government of scheming to \u201cshortchange&#8221; public sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>According to them, they duly submitted their SSNIT numbers as requested by the CAGD, therefore writing them off as ghost names is unfortunate.<\/p>\n<p>The president of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ernest Opoku on <strong>Eyewitness News<\/strong> stated that the teachers are very disappointed with Ministry of Finance&#8217;s directive \u201cand we think that it\u2019s a ploy to shortchange Ghanaian workers and for that matter, teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;f2ZMF7Es3NAgni7PRJQ3asEwgcMPJEtz&#8221;]In June this year, the CAGD advised all government employees to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/12\/ssnit-must-sit-up-imani-ghana\/#sthash.lKMYb7zZ.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">submit their social security information<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to their respective Personnel Processing Sections (PPSs) before June 12, 2015 to avoid the deletion of their names from the payroll.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, the Coalition of Concerned Teachers issued a statement that<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/23\/15000-teachers-may-not-receive-june-salaries\/#sthash.g5GECcEQ.mSe3qfPx.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"> about 15,000 teachers will be affected<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>because of the insistence from the Controller and Accountant General that they do not have SSNIT numbers on their pay slips.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday however, the Finance Ministry directed the CAGD to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/07\/03\/salaries-of-workers-without-ssnit-numbers-suspended\/#sthash.XORDQkVH.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">suspend payment of salaries<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to all public sector workers who failed to submit their SSNIT numbers as earlier directed.<\/p>\n<p>An angry Ernest Opoku explained that when the directive was given, he relayed the information to his colleague teachers who the submitted their SSNIT numbers to the Ghana Education Service (GES).<\/p>\n<p>The Director General of the GES, he said assured them that their numbers have been forwarded to the Controller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we are very much surprised that the Controller decided to take this decision.
