The Winneba District Magistrate Court has convicted 53 year old lecturer of University of Cape Cost (UCC) to a fine of GHC 240.00 for reckless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.<\/p>\n
Francis Dela pleaded not guilty to the charges and was convicted accordingly to his own plea.<\/p>\n
Prosecution Police Detective Sergeant Peter Agbelie told the court that the complainant of the case is a Minister of the Gospel.<\/p>\n
He said on 11th August 2013 at about 19.15 hours, the accused person, Dela was driving a Mitsubishi Gallant Private Car with registration Number GN 971-13 from Accra direction heading towards Saltpond.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution,\u00a0 the accused person on reaching a spot about 300 meters to Gomoa Okyereko he veered off from his lane to the opposite direction and crushed with a Mitsubishi L2000 Pick-up with registration Number GW 1349-11 been driven by Pastor\u00a0 Prince Twumasi\u00a0 who was also travelling from\u00a0 Winneba towards Accra.<\/p>\n
Detective Sgt. Agbelie said people on board the Pick-up vehicle sustained injuries and were rushed to Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital where they were admitted, treated and discharged.<\/p>\n
He said investigations conducted both the complaint Twumasi and the accused lecturer driver Dela were taken to the scene of the accident where measurements were taken in their presence<\/p>\n
He stated further that a Driving Vehicle Licenses Authority (DVLA) Engineer was invited to conduct examination on the two accidents cars which revealed that, driving licenses, insurance and roadworthiness certificate on both of them were valid.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said after investigations the accused person was arraigned before the court charged with the offense.<\/p>\n
