“It’s just a rumour,”\u00a0Elba told Britain’s Radio Times.<\/em>\u00a0“I have no idea.”<\/p>\n While conjecture\u00a0about actors in contention to play Bond is traditional theatre in the lead-up to a new movie in the long-running series – Spectre<\/em> opens around the world\u00a0in November –\u00a0there was support for a black 007 in\u00a0an email that emerged during the hack on\u00a0Sony Pictures.<\/p>\n “Idris should be the next Bond,”\u00a0studio\u00a0chief Amy Pascal wrote\u00a0in an e-mail to another Hollywood executive.<\/p>\n Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan and Kanye West were among those who endorsed him for the role.\u00a0And Elba\u00a0has previously said he would definitely accept the role if it was offered to him.<\/p>\n But with Craig contracted for at least one more movie after Spectre<\/em>\u00a0there is no rush to replace him.<\/p>\n That has not stopped British bookmaker Paddy Power\u00a0from framing a field dominated by well-known British actors, with Lewis marginally favourite (6\/4) ahead of Elba,\u00a0Mad Max: Fury Road’s<\/em> Tom Hardy and X-Men First Class’s<\/em> Michael Fassbender (all 4\/1), Man of Steel’s <\/em>Henry Cavill (7\/1), The Walking Dead’s<\/em> Andrew Lincoln, Lord of the Rings<\/em>‘ Orlando Bloom and The Hobbit’s<\/em> Richard Armitage (all 12\/1).<\/p>\n After that, it starts to seem\u00a0unlikely with Thor’s<\/em> Tom Hiddleston\u00a0The Transporter’s <\/em>Jason Statham and Fifty Shades of Grey’s<\/em>\u00a0Jamie Dornan\u00a0(all 14\/1). A blonde Bond is one thing; a Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> one is a different matter entirely.<\/p>\n Sam Worthington, who was down to the final few candidates when Craig was cast for the first time in Casino Royale<\/em>,\u00a0is the highest-rated Australian (25\/1), though he has publically said he has no interest in the role,\u00a0followed by Guy Pearce (40\/1) and Chris Hemsworth (50\/1).<\/p>\n The likelihood is the filmmakers will replace Craig with a white accomplished actor with strong physical presence who can carry off suave and dangerous.
