The immediate past Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan has been given the highest national award for his service to the nation.<\/p>\n

The award, Companion of the Order of Star of Ghana was presented by President John Mahama on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Charlotte Osei formerly the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) will be replacing Afari Gyan who retired last month.<\/p>\n

The President also honoured 42 medical personnel who volunteered to travel to Ebola stricken countries to offer their services there.<\/p>\n

In attendance were some Ministers of State including Alex Segbefia, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Dzifa Attivor, among others.<\/p>\n

About Afari Gyan\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former Chair of the EC is a Ghanaian academic, political scientist and election administrator. He retired from serving as the EC Chair in June, 2015.<\/p>\n

He has also worked in a large number of other African countries, and has written several books.<\/p>\n

He was the “star” witness for the Electoral Commission of Ghana in an electoral petition of the 2012 elections which the New Patriotic Party filed after 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n
