{"id":129955,"date":"2015-06-30T10:59:07","date_gmt":"2015-06-30T10:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=129955"},"modified":"2015-06-30T14:52:06","modified_gmt":"2015-06-30T14:52:06","slug":"charlotte-osei-sworn-in-as-new-ec-boss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=129955","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte Osei sworn in as new EC boss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in the\u00a0newly appointed Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Osei was sworn in on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/swearing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-129989\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/swearing.jpg\" alt=\"swearing\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/swearing.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/swearing-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of the chairmen of the various political parties including the New Patriotic Party&#8217;s Paul Afoko were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Charlotte Osei becomes the first woman to head the commission, taking over from Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan who was in charge for nearly two decades.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She tended in her resignation as\u00a0Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education on Monday 29th June 2015.<\/p>\n<p>She is a lawyer with experience in public service management and institutional reform.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;hb9OpLyBovKOYcZfAwWHDDQ4FEstnM3K&#8221;]She also has expertise in corporate law, banking, insurance project financing and public-private partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Her appointment has been met with mixed reactions as some believe, she lacks the experience to occupy such a position.<\/p>\n<p>Others have also\u00a0criticised the President since her appointment, saying he failed to consult the Council of State before appointing her.<\/p>\n<p>The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper,\u00a0Kwesi Pratt has however <a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/27\/ec-appointment-mahama-hasnt-broken-the-law-kwesi-pratt\/#sthash.rf6rmHis.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>watered down those<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>criticisms, saying he did not breach the law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Below is the full CV of the new EC Chairperson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Career Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2011 \u2013 Chairperson, National Commission for Civic Education<\/p>\n<p>Providing education to Ghanaians on their civic rights and responsibilities, voter education and knowledge of Ghana\u2019s Constitution in order to strengthen Ghana\u2019s democracy.
