{"id":128935,"date":"2015-06-27T17:52:27","date_gmt":"2015-06-27T17:52:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=128935"},"modified":"2015-06-27T17:55:58","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T17:55:58","slug":"tepahenes-linguist-summoned-for-cursing-mahamas-enemies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=128935","title":{"rendered":"Tepahene&#8217;s linguist summoned for cursing Mahama&#8217;s enemies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nana Kwame Poku, a linguist for Tepahene, Nana Adusei\u00a0 Atwenewaa Ampem\u00a0I, has been cited for contempt under the laws of the traditional council after he publicly invoked\u00a0curses on people who were opposed to President Mahama\u2019s second-term\u00a0bid.<\/p>\n<p>The linguist, who has been summoned by the elders of\u00a0Tepa, is expected to appear before the Traditional\u00a0Council, which is presided over by the Tepa Paramount chief to explain\u00a0his action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Only Nana Kwame Poku knows what compelled him to make that utterance\u00a0at the function; he would not be spared if found guilty,&#8221; Nana\u00a0Atwenewaa Ampem I warned.<\/p>\n<p>Tepa Paramount chief, Nana Antwenewaa Ampem I, who disclosed this described the linguist\u2019s utterance as very unfortunate and\u00a0alien to Asante tradition and culture, hence his arrest for contempt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe linguist would appear before the Tepa Traditional Council with\u00a0his Abusuapanin for his remarks at the durbar. He would be punished\u00a0when found guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nana Kwame Poku caused a stir whilst pouring libation at a durbar to\u00a0welcome President Mahama, who was on a working visit to Tepa.<\/p>\n<p>He invoked curses on people who do not want the National Democratic\u00a0Congress (NDC) administration to win the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>The linguist said former\u00a0Presidents Rawlings and Kufuor served two terms as leaders of Ghana\u00a0and wondered why President Mahama should also not be retained.<\/p>\n<p>The Tepahene\u2019s linguist angrily invoked the spirit of wind to flush\u00a0out anybody that would strongly resist President Mahama\u2019s ambition of\u00a0winning a second term, triggering shouts from the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Nana Atwenewaa Ampem stated categorically that if the linguist\u2019s\u00a0statement is proven to be a curse by the traditional council, which is\u00a0forbidden in Asanteman, the necessary punitive measures would be taken\u00a0against him.<\/p>\n<p>The Tepahene, who was speaking on Peace FM, distanced himself\u00a0from what he described as\u00a0unfortunate remarks of Nana Kwame Poku,\u00a0noting that the linguist is solely responsible for his\u00a0behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>Nana Atwenewaa Ampem I also explained that Nana Kwame Poku is not the\u00a0chief linguist of the Tepahene as being speculated by the media,\u00a0noting that the chief linguist of the stool was not present at the\u00a0durbar due to illness.<\/p>\n<p>The Tepahene stated that wind is not used to curse people in Asanteman.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed Nana Kwame Poku was overly excited while standing before\u00a0prominent people like President Mahama at the function.<\/p>\n<p>The Tepahene entreated Ghanaians, especially those who were offended\u00a0by the statement of the linguist, to exercise restraint, noting that\u00a0the traditional council would properly investigate the matter and take\u00a0the necessary action for peace to prevail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Lauretta Timah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nana Kwame Poku, a linguist for Tepahene, Nana Adusei\u00a0 Atwenewaa Ampem\u00a0I, has been cited for contempt under the laws of the traditional council after he publicly invoked\u00a0curses on people who were opposed to President Mahama\u2019s second-term\u00a0bid.
