But addressing a press conference on Thursday in Accra, Noyaatse of Korle-Gonno Nii Obedro said the Council believes the time for the demolition came at a right time.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur inspection at Circle clearly suggested that a number of factors contributed immensely to the flooding in parts of Accra. They included erecting unauthorized settlements and structures in the waterways of the rivers that empty into the Korle Lagoon.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Nii Obedro, Old Fadama was one of the areas they identified as the cause of flooding in the region hence their endorsement of AMA\u2019s action adding that \u201cwe are most grateful to the AMA.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is more, the present location of these structures used to be the spiritual ground of the Korle deity. Unfortunately, over time the area has been defiled.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further condemned the protests by the Old Fadama residents over the demolition saying it was an \u201cunruly behavior\u201d and \u201cwe hope the culprits who have been identified and arrested will be dealt with by law.\u201d<\/p>\n
On his part, the acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, Nii Ayi Bonte said they will no longer give out lands for relocation since past projects have not benefited them in any way.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 1961, Nkrumah relocated them to New Fadama, they were also relocated to Darkumah. Why should they always be relocated to places of their choice? This time we will not agree. As at now, we don\u2019t even have any land remaining,\u201d he fumed.<\/p>\n
