Two persons have died from cholera in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region.<\/p>\n
Some 23 cases have also been confirmed out of the 79 reported cases.<\/p>\n
Between July and September last year over 900 cholera cases were recorded.<\/p>\n

The Metropolitan Health Director for Sekondi Takoradi Madam Joyce Begina speaking exclusively to Citi News<\/strong> indicated that, \u201cthe Sekondi Takoradi Metro despite embarking on some sensitization campaigns has been struggling to contain the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n She said the complete \u201cdisregard for safety precautions\u201d is a source of worry as it is established that people are in the known of the factors which cause the disease but \u201cthe practice of the knowledge is what is missing.\u201d<\/p>\n All the 26 major communities in Sekondi Takoradi as at 23rd June 2015 have at least recorded one case of cholera since the beginning of the second week of this year.<\/p>\n She said \u201cit is only in the first week of January that the metro did not record cholera cases.\u201d<\/p>\n Madam Begina insisted that \u201cthe missing link has to do with change in attitude, unhygienic conditions at market places and food vending points and a weaker enforcement of sanitary bye-laws in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis.\u201d<\/p>\n She however cautioned food vendors especially in schools and open places to ensure safe hygienic conditions and sell hot foods to pupils.<\/p>\n
