{"id":127987,"date":"2015-06-25T05:45:59","date_gmt":"2015-06-25T05:45:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=127987"},"modified":"2015-06-25T05:49:18","modified_gmt":"2015-06-25T05:49:18","slug":"cost-of-dumsor-cannot-be-quantified-power-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=127987","title":{"rendered":"Cost of Dumsor cannot be quantified \u2013 Power Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Power says it cannot quantify the cost of the erratic power supply on the economy, citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Gambila Adagbila who wanted to find out \u201cwhether there have been attempts to quantify the losses to the national economy of the electricity power outages for the year 2012, 2013, and January to September 2014.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;vee019IOCHPdZL162ovVXKaSh351rGxD&#8221;]Responding to the question, the Power Ministry said: \u201cThe Ministry of Power lacks the competence to quantify the loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ghana has for the past three years been experiencing erratic power cuts triggered by inconsistent power supply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research\u2019s (ISSER), Ghana\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/05\/14\/2-2-million-lost-daily-to-dumsor-isser\/#sthash.KoHdlDi9.NIdjba9X.dpbs\"><strong>loses about $2.2 million daily<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and $686.4 million annually due to the power crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is according to\u00a0ISSER is\u00a0cost per kilowatt analysis by the Institute&#8217;s Economic Division.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, the Ghana Employers\u2019 Associations alleged that due to the erratic power cuts close to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/04\/16\/dumsor-triggered-13000-job-cuts-employers-association\/#sthash.fDntXku5.TqmgkwTh.dpbs\"><strong>13,000 workers were sacked<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in the first quarter of 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cold store owners at the Tema Harbour had lamented that the power crisis\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/03\/dumsor-our-cold-store-businesses-are-collapsing-traders\/#sthash.vF1T05Yx.dpbs\"><strong>is badly affecting their business<\/strong><\/a><\/span> as cartons of fish are left to go bad and discarded on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116111\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116111\" style=\"width: 621px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cold-store.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-116111\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cold-store.jpg\" alt=\"Cold store operators throwing away their rotten stock  due to the power crisis \" width=\"621\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cold-store.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/cold-store-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 621px) 100vw, 621px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116111\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cold store operators throwing away their rotten stock due to the power crisis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They claim that\u00a0alternative power sources are\u00a0unable to provide the required energy needed by their refrigerators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
