Rapper P Diddy has been arrested by police in California over claims he hit a sports coach with a gym weight.<\/p>\n

Officers at UCLA university in Los Angeles had to deal with an altercation at the college training complex.<\/p>\n

The rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs, has a son called Justin who plays as a defensive back on the American football team.<\/p>\n

Nobody was seriously injured and Combs was released from a Los Angeles County jail after posting bail.<\/p>\n

He’s charged with assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n

The dispute, which involved a gym kettlebell, took place in the office of UCLA assistant coach Sal Alosi.<\/p>\n

It’s reported that a team assistant was shouting at Justin Combs repeatedly during a game which P Diddy was attending.<\/p>\n

He’s then said to have confronted the coach in his office after the match.<\/p>\n

“This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved,” football coach Jim Mora said in the statement from UCLA campus police.<\/p>\n

“While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old has build a music empire over 25 years and changed his name from Puff Daddy to Diddy.<\/p>\n

In the UK, due to a legal dispute with a DJ, he’s continued to release music under the name P Diddy.<\/p>\n

As well as launching the careers of The Notorious BIG, he’s promoted the careers of major international artists from Mary J Blige to Mariah Carey.<\/p>\n

His 1997 debut album No Way Out went seven times platinum and he’s won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Awards.<\/p>\n

In 1998, he launched a clothing line, Sean John, which won the 2004 Council of Fashion Designers of America award for Menswear Designer of the Year.<\/p>\n

The producer was involved in controversy when in a relationship with Jennifer Lopez in 1999.<\/p>\n

He was charged with four counts of illegal gun possession while out at a nightclub.<\/p>\n

Another man, connected to the rapper, was found guilty of assault and reckless endangerment after shots were fired inside the club which injured three people.<\/p>\n

Sean Combs was cleared of all charges.<\/p>\n

Combs was also arrested in 1999 for his involvement in the beating of former Interscope executive Steve Stoute in New York.<\/p>\n

The rapper apologised, the charges were reduced and he was ordered to attend an anger management class.<\/p>\n

Combs went into reality television with the premiere of his VH1 series I Want to Work for Diddy in 2008.<\/p>\n

According to the Forbes hip-hop wealthiest list 2015, his personal fortune is estimated at close to \u00a3465m.<\/p>\n
