{"id":126673,"date":"2015-06-20T13:14:15","date_gmt":"2015-06-20T13:14:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=126673"},"modified":"2015-06-20T13:14:15","modified_gmt":"2015-06-20T13:14:15","slug":"google-takes-steps-to-crack-down-on-revenge-porn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=126673","title":{"rendered":"Google takes steps to crack down on revenge porn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Victims of revenge porn will be able to put in requests to Google to take down content from search results.<\/p>\n<p>The images will still exist but won&#8217;t come up on a list when people look for them.<\/p>\n<p>In a blog post the company&#8217;s Vice President Amit Singhal said it will apply to &#8220;nude or sexually explicit images&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Google has, in the past, resisted attempts for it to take down online content from those search results.<\/p>\n<p>The update is expected to come in over the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Amit Singhal admits: &#8220;We know this won&#8217;t solve the problem of revenge porn.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We aren&#8217;t able, of course, to remove these images from the websites themselves, but we hope that honouring people&#8217;s requests to remove such imagery from our search results can help.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_container embeddedcontent video_container\" data-embedtype=\"smp\" data-embedlink=\"http:\/\/playlists.bbc.co.uk\/newsbeat\/31382659A\/playlist.sxml\"><\/div>\n<p>The law changed earlier this year so anyone in England and Wales caught sharing intimate photos or videos of a former partner without their permissioncould face up to two years in jail.<\/p>\n<p>Both Scotland and Northern Ireland are considering similar laws.<\/p>\n<p>Revenge porn laws do already exist in some US states including California, Texas, and Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Newsbeat met 24-year-old Anisha last year, who&#8217;s ex-boyfriend was jailed for six months in New Jersey, after he posted sexually explicit photos of her on several websites.<\/p>\n<p>In June Newsbeat spoke to an American YouTube star who&#8217;s pursuing a landmark revenge porn case in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Chrissy Chambers found explicit photos of her online, which she claims were uploaded by her British ex-partner.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s now pursuing a civil action against him.<\/p>\n<p>She wants an apology, monetary damages and to hold the copyright and control of the sexually explicit material.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_container \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/976\/cpsprodpb\/2927\/production\/_83753501_chrissy.jpg\" alt=\"Chrissy Chambers is now in a relationship with Bria Kam\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"caption\"><span class=\"screen_reader_text\">Image caption<\/span>Chrissy Chambers is now in a relationship with Bria Kam<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>As well as this, Chrissy and her lawyers are also seeking criminal charges and have lodged a complaint with police.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Victims of revenge porn will be able to put in requests to Google to take down content from search results.
