A demolishing exercise is presently underway at Sodom and Gomorrah near the Odaw River in Accra.<\/p>\n

Over a thousand structures have so far been demolished while others are also being pulled down at the\u00a0scrap dealers section\u00a0near\u00a0Sikkens.<\/p>\n

The exercise is being undertaken by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) taskforce with support from the security services.<\/p>\n

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo\u00a0and the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije are present to supervise the exercise.<\/p>\n

Thousands of the slum dwellers who are mostly migrants from the northern part of the country have been rendered homeless, while scrap metals and make shift shops have also been destroyed.<\/p>\n

There is heavy security presence as personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service are at the site to maintain order and prevent any disruptions.<\/p>\n
