{"id":126462,"date":"2015-06-19T15:24:06","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T15:24:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=126462"},"modified":"2015-06-19T15:45:10","modified_gmt":"2015-06-19T15:45:10","slug":"new-minimum-wage-to-be-announced-in-september","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=126462","title":{"rendered":"New minimum wage to be announced in September"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has indicated that a new minimum wage will be announced in September.<\/p>\n<p>The tripartite committee has tasked a technical committee to present a report on the new minimum wage report by July 7.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;GBv77Vg7hQCWEzuCwKcXXVtYuOpUK4Re&#8221;]Haruna Iddrisu at a press conference on Friday said\u00a0the public sector joint negotiation committee has started work on the review of the base pay.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In January, the national tripartite committee agreed that the national daily minimum wage should be<span style=\"color: #666699;\"> <strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/01\/20\/daily-minimum-wage-now-ghc-7\/#sthash.mhVsvIIV.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">increased by 16.7%.\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The daily minimum wage thus increased from CHC 6 to GHC 7 and it took effect from January 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The tripartite committee however\u00a0recommended\u00a0that the increment should be tax exempt.<\/p>\n<p>After the increment, Haruna Iddrisu explained\u00a0the importance of the new daily minimum wage saying, it was pegged at GHC 7 <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/01\/21\/new-minimum-wage-approved-arrest-inflation-minister\/#sthash.gzTJJvBK.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">to arrest \u00a0\u201cthe continuous rise in inflation.\u201d\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Ghana\u00a0Employers\u2019 Association (GEA)\u00a0however\u00a0said some of its members would <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/01\/21\/employers-will-struggle-to-pay-new-minimum-wage-association\/#sthash.1orHeSNx.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">struggle to pay<\/a><\/strong><\/span> the new amount because some businesses in the country are facing serious financial and economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear yet whether the current wage will be maintained or increased.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0national tripartite committee met at the Ministry on Friday with the President of the Ghana Employers&#8217; Association, Terry Darko, the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kofi Asamoah, representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Employment in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The sector Minister announced that government has given the\u00a0national tripartite committee a proposal for a housing scheme for public sector workers.<\/p>\n<p>This, he said is because government recognizes the immense impact the housing deficit has on the country.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) will also convene \u00a0the public sector joint standing negotiations committee to determine the base pay for 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Raymond Acquah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has indicated that a new minimum wage will be announced in September.
