The Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has welcomed the decision by the Ministry of Health to begin the Ebola vaccine trial in the region.<\/p>\n
This was after Volta Regional branch instigated a massive opposition against the exercise in the region which got the support of members of Parliament support the call.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”kK4DhbSeLrgjlNahizCj8letaGYe5Cgu”]After Parliament\u2019s directive<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for a suspension of the exercise, the Minister of Health Alex Segbefia informed\u00a0them\u00a0on Tuesday that his Ministry will carry out a\u00a0public education<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>beginning from the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, June 18, 2015.<\/p>\n Speaking to Citi News<\/strong> on the development, the Brong Ahafo Regional chairman of the NDC, Opoku Atuahene explained that once there will not be any negative effects as explained, they will embrace the intended trial.<\/p>\n \u201cNow that the Ebola vaccine trial has been explained to us and we know from the explanation that it is good for humanity and that it is good for Ghana, we welcome the idea so we should give it a try,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n He stressed that once the vaccine will not cause any health hazard to participants, \u201cwe should do it for our own benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Atuahene urged the Ministry and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to go ahead and do the trial because \u201cwe are not health personnel, we didn\u2019t know exactly what was happening so now that it has been explained and we know from the technical people and the scientists that it\u2019s good for mankind, how can we reject it?\u201d<\/p>\n According to him, the exercise faced fierce public resistance because of the lack of education on the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cThe issue is education; I am well informed, I know but if other people don\u2019t know and they are talking against it, it is not good for society. Anytime new things are coming out, they always face some resistance but good people will plan.\u201d<\/p>\n The sensitization exercise will later be carried out in the Volta, Brong Ahafo and the Upper East Regions.<\/p>\n The exercise is aimed at disabusing the minds of Ghanaians against the perception that the vaccine will end up spreading the Ebola virus in Ghana.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n
