{"id":125642,"date":"2015-06-17T09:06:43","date_gmt":"2015-06-17T09:06:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=125642"},"modified":"2015-06-17T09:06:43","modified_gmt":"2015-06-17T09:06:43","slug":"swiss-banks-reported-fifa-accounts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=125642","title":{"rendered":"Swiss banks &#8216;reported Fifa accounts&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Swiss banks reported suspicious activity around accounts of football&#8217;s world governing body Fifa, says the Swiss attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Lauber said his office was analysing a &#8220;huge amount&#8221; of seized Fifa data in its corruption inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>He said he did not rule out interviews with Fifa president Sepp Blatter as part of his investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation could lead to the reopening of the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.<\/p>\n<p>Fifa is facing claims of widespread corruption after Swiss police raided a hotel in Zurich &#8211; where Fifa is based &#8211; and arrested seven of its top executives last month.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/83404857_fifa_gallery_624_no_sb_v5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-125643\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/83404857_fifa_gallery_624_no_sb_v5.png\" alt=\"_83404857_fifa_gallery_624_no_sb_v5\" width=\"624\" height=\"661\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/83404857_fifa_gallery_624_no_sb_v5.png 624w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/83404857_fifa_gallery_624_no_sb_v5-283x300.png 283w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The seven were held at the request of the US department of justice, which has charged 14 current and former Fifa officials and associates on charges of &#8220;rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted&#8221; corruption.<\/p>\n<p>The charges follow a major inquiry by the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, much less has been revealed about the Swiss investigation than the inquiry being led by the FBI.<\/p>\n<p>But if Swiss investigators do prove that bribes changed hands in the bidding contests, Russia and Qatar could lose their hosting rights to the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Lauber told a news conference that his investigation was looking at 53 banking relationships reported by the Swiss financial intelligence unit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are facing a complex investigation with many international implications. The prosecution is ongoing and will take time.
