The family of the \u00a036-year-old farmer, Jabiuk Duut, who was shot dead in Pagnatik, a suburb of Bunkprugu in the Northern region \u00a0is demanding justice.<\/p>\n
The family has alleged that the military is shielding the military officer suspected to have shot their relative.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”aHhgyCtPsypj1xCXEc6pb5cFZvS50ita”]According to the family, their investigations have revealed that Private Daniel Appiah of the 6 Battalion, Kamina Barracks in Tamale has been transferred to another region to shield him from being prosecuted.<\/p>\n
Jabiuk Duut was shot in his room in April for allegedly breaking the curfew that was imposed on the town, following deadly clashes there.<\/p>\n
Two months after the incident, the family said they are surprised that Private Daniel Appiah has still not been brought to book.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have gathered information from reliable sources that that soldier, Daniel Appiah, who shot our brother at Pagnatik has now been detailed for training after which he will be sent out of the country for peace-keeping, and we hear that is the strategy to keep him away from Ghana for one year,\u201d the uncle of the deceased, Nelson Jatuak revealed.<\/p>\n
He expressed his concern that by the time the accused soldier returned, the matter would have been forgotten.<\/p>\n
He further revealed that the wife of the deceased man was pregnant and with her husband gone, frustration and trauma have been left on her.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been listening and waiting to\u00a0 hear if the soldier who committed this heinous crime has been prosecuted or at least arrested and at the police station,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Member of Parliament for Bunkprugu in the Northern Region, Solomon Boar had claimed that the army officer who shot and killed the 36-year-old man during curfew hours was not in Police custody as had been announced.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy sources in Bunkprugu have revealed that the army officer is roaming on the streets in his uniform, wining and dining with his army and friends while the deceased\u2019s family are languishing and struggling to earn a living far away,\u201d he alleged.<\/p>\n
