{"id":125065,"date":"2015-06-15T19:30:51","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T19:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=125065"},"modified":"2015-06-15T19:30:51","modified_gmt":"2015-06-15T19:30:51","slug":"npp-must-look-at-its-election-laws-again-nitiwul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=125065","title":{"rendered":"NPP must look at its election laws again &#8211; Nitiwul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Deputy Minority leader in Ghana\u2019s Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul is asking for a critical review of the New Patriotic Party&#8217;s (NPP) constitution to protect its experienced Members of Parliament (MPs).<\/p>\n<p>The Bimbilla MP said the high number of legislators who lost in the party\u2019s primaries is indicative that \u201cthe NPP would have to look again at the way we look we go about our primaries \u2013 the method, the timing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;eiVdNIO0jZKoLN5MFfvBEHuzffRg2qAJ&#8221;]\u201cWe still have to do some in house searching to see whether what we are doing is the right thing because it\u2019s not easy to lose that rich caliber of people in Parliament,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP over the weekend elected Parliamentary candidates who will contest in the 2016 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Majority of the incumbent MPs sought to be re-elected but <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/14\/24-npp-incumbent-mps-wont-return-to-parliament\/#sthash.psMJusYU.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">24 of them failed<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to secure the mandate of their constituents.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Nitiwul said he foresees a hard time for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if the new Parliament is inaugurated in 2017 since most of its experienced hands lost in last Saturday\u2019s primaries.<\/p>\n<p>Heavy weights like Dr. Richard Anane, Francis Addae Nimoh, Isaac Osei, Dr. Afriyie Owusu Akoto and other 20 Members of Parliament (MPs) lost their bid to contest the 2016 Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NPP.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong> Citi News<\/strong>, Dominic Nitiwul who was retained as NPP Parliamentary candidate for Bimbilla said in as much the newly elected candidates will come with fresh ideas, the departure of the old MPs will be felt by the Minority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who are coming are experienced in their own right but I am talking about Parliamentary experience in the sense that some of the people who lost are very rich in Parliamentary experience. They are not coming back to Parliament but most of them are very well versed in Parliamentary work,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Nitiwul acknowledged that if the elected candidates are able to win the 2016 elections, they will learn how Ghana\u2019s Legislature operates, but he pointed out that \u201cit will take a bit of time.
