Some Ghanaians<\/strong><\/a><\/span> are blaming the state of the ongoing road project in the area for flooding.<\/p>\n The Accra Metropolitan Assembly had desilted the Odaw River<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to allow free flow of rainwater.<\/p>\n Odaw River cause of Circle flooding <\/strong><\/p>\n Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> on Monday, the Director of Urban Roads, Abbas Aworlu argued that the construction of\u00a0an interchange at Circle\u00a0will among other things “improve the drainage systems within the area,\u201d but lamented that \u201cthe main challenge of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle is the Odaw River.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe Odaw River is a main outfall for a lot of drainage systems within that part of Accra. Once the Odaw River is full, all the other side drains that connect into it will not go and obviously that creates a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n “If you look at the Odaw River, from Avenor towards the Lagoon, the size of the drain is 45 meters by 4.5 meters deep. Unfortunately, today when we go in there, we don\u2019t even have up to a meter because it has been filled with other materials,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n President John Dramani Mahama has assured that government will adopt drastic measures<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to address the perennial flooding situation in the country.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
