{"id":124927,"date":"2015-06-15T06:37:13","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T06:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=124927"},"modified":"2015-06-15T07:25:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-15T07:25:30","slug":"gridlock-on-mallam-kasoa-highway-after-sundays-rains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=124927","title":{"rendered":"Gridlock on Mallam-Kasoa Highway\u00a0after Sunday\u2019s rains"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heavy rains on Sunday created massive traffic on the Mallam-Kasoa highway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The intermittent rains which started in the morning poured until late in the night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The situation flooded the stretch between the old barrier and the West Hills mall, forcing vehicles heading towards Accra from Kasoa to share the opposite lane with other vehicles heading towards Kasoa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3MtKCw4mRNHVQrJa2nu7JRcgYiwGMBwn&#8221;]For over six hours, vehicles going towards Kasoa couldn\u2019t go beyond the Weija SCC traffic light.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An eyewitness, Franklin Gbenna described the chaotic situation to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said \u201cat about 7pm\u2026upon reaching the stretch of old barrier and SCC junction, I noticed that there was an unusual traffic ahead of me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cInitially I thought that an accident had occurred only to be told that vehicles moving from Kasoa to Accra have taken part of our roads because of the flood that has engulfed the road that they were using. Within 15 minutes, the flood on the opposite side of the road took over the road we were using with intensity. It was so intense that it could easily drag a moving vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150614-WA0007.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-124874\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150614-WA0007.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20150614-WA0007\" width=\"600\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150614-WA0007.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150614-WA0007-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The situation according to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Franklin Badu Junior has not changed much adding that there is no security presence at the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile government has explained the cause of the standoff yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a press statement signed by the sector minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, government said\u00a0heavy rainfall washed heaps of sand onto the street, causing the problem on the Kasoa-Accra stretch of the Highway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement also advised motorists to be cautious when driving as efforts were being made to clear the road.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/accra-flooded-again.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-124907\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/accra-flooded-again.jpg\" alt=\"accra flooded again\" width=\"587\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/accra-flooded-again.jpg 587w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/accra-flooded-again-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a related development, parts of Accra also experienced flooding last night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Kwame Nkrumah Circle flooded again.
