Minority leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is confident of retaining his seat as Suame Legislator in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) June 13 Parliamentary primaries.<\/p>\n
The Suame Member of Parliament is fiercely being contested in the party’s primaries which will see the election of candidates to represent the NPP in the 2016 Parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n
He had earlier raised concerns about the failure of the party leadership to protect him<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>considering the fact that he is the leader of the Minority side in Parliament.<\/p>\n He was of the view that\u00a0\u00a0the practice where the party allows its leader in Parliament to be challenged is undemocratic.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”Dz5RHYMgRpRa5craDurk535tBZMNmcPx”]Some MPs including some members from the Majority side of the House have also been advocating for him to go unopposed.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n However, Mensah Bonsu in an interview on Eyewitness News<\/strong> said he is certain that the outcome of Saturday’s primaries will indicate that all his worries ahead of the elections may have been “a storm in a tea cup.”<\/p>\n “It is victory tomorrow, it will be victory tomorrow\u2026I don\u2019t need to sound the gong on this but the announcement will be made tomorrow and everybody will know that maybe it was all a storm in a tea cup.”<\/p>\n No need for campaign posters<\/strong><\/p>\n The Suame MP who has occupied the seat for the past said there was no need to use campaign posters and billboards to convince the delegates to vote for him.<\/p>\n He said it is his ‘”unknown” competitors who are mounting giant billboards because they are struggling to be recognized by the delegates.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople know me and those who are not known are the ones advertising themselves. I have been here and all the delegates know me and so I don\u2019t need to engage in this high profile advertisement\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Mensah Bonsu nonetheless clarified that his refusal to print campaign posters in no way suggests that he is being complacent.<\/p>\n “I am not saying that I am being complacent\u2026even though I have not had too long a time to being here, everything has gone down well,” he explained.<\/p>\n I’ve not failed Suame Constituency\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The Minority leader dismissed assertions that his failure to develop the constituency in 19 years is what has led to the stiff competition he is facing.<\/p>\n He accused his opponents of concocting such lies to make them look viable to the delegates.<\/p>\n Mensah Bonsu was confident that the residents in his constituency “appreciate what I have been able to achieve not only in the Suame Constituency, but for the regional party, the national party, for Parliament as an institution and for country Ghana.”<\/p>\n “\u2026come tomorrow, you will see the results and I believe that God is control and as far as I am concerned, it will be victory for Kyei Mensah Bonsu.”<\/p>\n He further\u00a0expressed his appreciation to his colleagues in Parliament who have been speaking on his behalf for him to be retained as MP for Suame.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
