An Accra Fast Track High Court, presided over by his Lordship Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh has sentenced Mr. Asem Darkey, popularly known as “limping man” to 22 years imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Mr. Darkey, an alleged drug baron involved in the disappearance of the 76 parcels of cocaine, appeared before the court in 2012 and was brought under five charges: conspiracy to import narcotic drugs, importation of narcotic drugs, possession of narcotic drugs, undertaking prohibited business, and corruption of a public officer.<\/p>\n
On March 12, the court fixed April 4 to deliver its verdict but when the case was called, the trial judge, his Lordship, Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh said he received his counsel’s submission late.<\/p>\n
The court therefore adjourned the matter to April 10.<\/p>\n
Mr. Dakey was found guilty for four out of the five charges leveled against him.<\/p>\n
Passing the sentence, his Lordship, Justice Habib Logoh decried the rate at which Narcotic trade is increasing in the country.<\/p>\n
He therefore sentenced ‘limping man’ to 22 years for each charge which will run concurrently.<\/p>\n
