Officials from the Ghana National Fire Service have confirmed to Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0that over 96 bodies have been retrieved from the debris of the GOIL filling station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra which was gutted by fire on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service,\u00a0Prince Billy Anaglatey confirmed \u00a0this to\u00a0Citi News<\/strong>‘ editor,\u00a0Richard Mensah.<\/p>\n

\"3\"<\/p>\n

According to Richard Mensah,\u00a0who was reporting from the scene of the incident, a few of the bodies were recovered from parked cars at the station.<\/p>\n

\"4\"<\/p>\n

President Mahama has arrived at the scene and has\u00a0addressed the media.<\/p>\n

He offered his condolences to the families of the deceased and commended the security officials for their response to the incident<\/p>\n

Fire service personnel reportedly struggled to fight the blaze as a result of last night’s heavy downpour which caused heavy traffic in the capital and restricted the ability of the fire trucks to get to the fire.<\/p>\n

A few people who survived the flames were taken to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

The Fire service has since been able to put out\u00a0the fire and officers from the police and the military are at the scene to ensure calm.<\/p>\n

There are also seven ambulances at the scene to convey the injured and the deceased to nearby hospitals.<\/p>\n

Reports indicate that four more bodies have been retrieved at the scene.<\/p>\n

The 37 Military hospital morgue where many victims of the fire had been taken is reportedly full and cannot take any more\u00a0bodies.<\/p>\n

Citi News’ Umaru Sanda reported that the roads are littered with broken down cars which were left there by their owners.<\/p>\n

He added that the water which had accumulated on the road as a result of the floods had “receded drastically” and movement has become easier for pedestrians and officials from the Fire Service and Police.<\/p>\n
