{"id":121146,"date":"2015-06-01T15:26:53","date_gmt":"2015-06-01T15:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=121146"},"modified":"2015-06-01T17:02:52","modified_gmt":"2015-06-01T17:02:52","slug":"trotro-drivers-strike-premature-gprtu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=121146","title":{"rendered":"Trotro drivers\u2019 strike premature \u2013 GPRTU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Yaw Manu has described as premature the strike by some commercial drivers across\u00a0the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Ixi4oNiAnXi8bo84qKJsJeeuCOnfh71A&#8221;]According to the One-Thousand-Strong Ghana Committed Drivers Association, some policies prescribed by the amended Road Traffic Regulations (LI 2180) and currently being implemented by the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) are unfriendly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Alhaji Yaw Manu insisted that the industrial action\u00a0was\u00a0poorly timed because the driver unions were still in negotiations with the DVLA and other stakeholders for a settlement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said \u201cwe are aware of their grievances and are discussing it with the DVLA boss and their management so there was no reason going on strike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you are not clear on something, our doors are always open and you can come in at any time. If they had approached us, we would have possibly sent a petition to Parliament and copy the Flagstaff House to have such concerns addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-120947\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0012.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20150601-WA0012\" width=\"750\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0012.jpg 750w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0012-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/01\/trotro-drivers-strike-20-arrested-for-blocking-teshie-nungua-roads\/#sthash.8dNBNv3N.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Scores of workers and school children<\/strong><\/a><\/span> were stranded in parts of Accra on Monday morning following\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/01\/ashaiman-drivers-demo-leave-passengers-stranded\/#sthash.MHUAQlkL.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">the strike action<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some of the drivers in Ashaiman and Teshie Nungua reportedly blocked some roads during the protest.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, commercial drivers within the Kumasi Metropolis did not join the nationwide strike by various transport operators.<\/p>\n<p>According to some of the drivers <strong>Citi News<\/strong> spoke to, the message did not get to them in time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/06\/01\/trotro-drivers-strike-20-arrested-for-blocking-teshie-nungua-roads\/#sthash.8dNBNv3N.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">Police have arrested 20 of the drivers<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in connection with the road block.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-120949\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0014.jpg\" alt=\"IMG-20150601-WA0014\" width=\"543\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0014.jpg 543w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/IMG-20150601-WA0014-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 543px) 100vw, 543px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor now the Police have arrested over twenty persons who were blocking roads unlawfully and taking the laws into their own hands claiming they are demonstrating and preventing drivers from working.
