{"id":12113,"date":"2014-04-09T17:53:07","date_gmt":"2014-04-09T17:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=12113"},"modified":"2014-04-09T17:55:06","modified_gmt":"2014-04-09T17:55:06","slug":"npp-congress-nana-addo-bawumia-shouldnt-vote-afoko","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=12113","title":{"rendered":"NPP Congress: Nana Addo, Bawumia shouldn\u2019t vote &#8211; Afoko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman aspirant, Paul Afoko has written a carefully worded letter to the national elections committee, demanding that both Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"ccaa2043-80f7-49b5-92b2-ca52501e1161\">Mahamudu<\/span> Bawumia should be excluded from voting at Saturday\u2019s national delegates congress of the party.<\/p>\n<p>Although Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"1a9d6cdb-43cb-4ff0-9eec-77c87d332be9\">Afoko\u2019s<\/span> April 7, 2014 letter did not categorically mention the names of the two top party guns, he quoted article 9 of the party\u2019s constitution to argue that the two-time flag bearer of the NPP and his running mate have no business coming close to ballot papers for the purpose of voting this Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote, \u201cSection 2<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"d0fadd0a-31c2-4ed4-b112-970e8a0cee12\">(<\/span><span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"0a60e0f9-74b4-4344-a506-58d7f4eb4717\">i<\/span>) of this article gives us the membership of the National Executive Committee.<\/p>\n<p>However, Section C (2ii)\u00a0 states that \u2018Chairpersons of sector committees, past national chairpersons, past Presidential candidates, past running mates, past general secretaries, directors at the national secretariat and such other members as the national executive committee may determine shall be entitled to attend meetings of the national <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7088e189-1292-4aac-bdfb-3f8836da1089\">executive committee but<\/span> without the right to vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"5b89a594-f06d-4715-bc46-af2cbdf4e020\">Afoko<\/span> also claimed to have observed that all the above mentioned category of persons who are entitled to attend NEC meetings under article 9 section 2 (ii) have all been included in the delegates register even though it is clear from the constitution that they are not members of <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"f6317861-056c-446a-b41a-6fb70a9ee399\">NEC<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He said he has therefore instructed all his polling agents to stop anyone from the above category who attempts to vote during Saturday\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p>He added that \u201cas a party that took the national electoral commission to the Supreme Court over irregularities and malpractices in the 2012 general elections in the country we cannot afford to mess up our own internal elections\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also raised issues he alleges could mar Saturday\u2019s Tamale Conference of the party, including issues with arrangements for proxy voting during the weekend\u2019s polls, demanding that proxy votes be put in ballot boxes different from those of regular voters.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"7ac4bee8-c53d-4bc0-8070-a329878b3308\">Afoko<\/span> therefore called for an urgent meeting off all aspirants, representatives of the national electoral commission and the NPP\u2019s election committee this Friday to have a final brush on the process and more importantly to know the modalities for the collation of results after the elections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Richard Dela Sky\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A New Patriotic Party (NPP) national chairman aspirant, Paul Afoko has written a carefully worded letter to the national elections committee, demanding that both Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should be excluded from voting at Saturday\u2019s national delegates congress of the party.
