Globally renowned appliances and electrical goods brand, Binatone, has sponsored \u201cProject MAJI\u201d in putting up a rural water plant in the Central Region.<\/p>\n

This is the second sustainable rural water plant project launched in Antsenbua 2, a village under the Komenda District in the Central Region.<\/p>\n

This follows the successful installation of the first plant in Atentan under the Assin Foso North district of the Central Region of Ghana on World Water Day.<\/p>\n

The\u201d Project MAJI\u201d solution is a simple yet clever solution, using solar power to pump water from deep boreholes with no reliance on outside sources of power making this unit both independent and sustainable.<\/p>\n

Thus, the pump is powered by its own source of energy, unlike a hand pump. A \u201cProject MAJI\u201d well is capable of pumping water from deeper sources, run the water through a filtration system and provide up to 10,000 litres of clean potable water to the people every day.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Project MAJI, Sunil Lalvani, explained the vision behind his project saying, \u201cwe are excited to have undertaken this social responsibility project with the aim of liberating the communities from the scarcity of potable water and its associated diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued that \u201cthis venture started, after I read a couple of articles about water issues in Africa that\u00a0 enlightened and encouraged me by continuing to research more on the subject and became appalled by the injustice of Water Poverty. I became somewhat passionate to do something about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cUsing my business background and experience in the electronics industry, it was relatively easy to put the knowhow together to create a sustainable potable water plant designed for villages.<\/p>\n

What concerned me most during the research phase was the amount of hand pumps that had been deployed in villages that had been become dysfunctional during my visit to the community. I made it a core goal of \u201cProject MAJI\u201d not to only provide and install water plants, but also to maintain them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sustainability in all aspects\u00a0is central to the Project MAJI mission he said, adding that \u201cwith great thanks to the sponsorship of Binatone, we now have two functional sites and\u00a0have proven our concept so that we now look to rapidly scale up and deploy further afield \u2026 our goal is to serve 1 million people with fresh\u00a0Project MAJI water.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of Binatone Ghana, Mr.Venu Babu mentioned that \u201cit is a great pleasure to sponsor these noble projects as part of our corporate social responsibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural development who was at the opening praised the plant, the technology and the achievement and acknowledged the need for such interventions, especially in rural areas,\u00a0and called for more Public Private Partnership\u00a0appreciating that the government is unable to achieve that level of penetration on its own.<\/p>\n

Dr. Stephen Nana Ato Arthur, Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), the chief of the area as well as other officials who were present\u00a0 graced the occasion and thanked \u201cProject MAJI\u201d and Binatone for this social project.<\/p>\n
