Calm has returned to troubled Bongini community<\/span> in the East Mamprusi district in the Northern Region after the imposition of curfew<\/span> there.<\/p>\n

Renewed clashes between Mamprusis and Bimobas in the area led to the death of four persons last weekend.<\/p>\n

The Interior Ministry in consultation with the Northern Regional Security Council on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 imposed curfew on Nakpanduri and its environs amidst opposition from the Member of Parliament for the area Hon. Solomon Buah.<\/p>\n

However, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer said they were in control of the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we speak the place is very calm and in addition to the eight weapons that we retrieved earlier three more weapons have been retrieved and this has brought the number now to eleven.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President of the Bimoba Students Union, Konlan Blaise condemned the renewed clashes in the area and appealed for calm.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact ,<\/span>it is regrettable to have conflict of this nature keep persisting and our concern is that in as much as the conflict in the area is regrettable we are also calling for the plight of the students.\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed to the Ministry of Interior to relax the dusk to dawn curfew in Nakpanduri.<\/p>\n

\u201cNakpanduri<\/span> has a secondary school and so if students are preparing<\/span> for the WASSCE exams and this curfew is imposed on that community which is not even part of the East Mamprusi district it raises concern.\u201d<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cOur concern is that if curfew has to be imposed the communities that are affected should have the bile of the curfew and not places where the conflict is not persistent; Nakpanduri is out of the East Mamprusi district and is in the Bunkprugu\/Yunyoo district.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a related development, four of the fourteen suspects who were arrested in connection with the clashes have been transferred to the police headquarters in Accra for further investigations.<\/p>\n
