Some political parties in the country have condemned the acid attack that killed the Upper East Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing it as a threat to the country\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”MeXXOM9xcJPWTx0CPWwIVIDv6K4DELvk”]The Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama died<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> from his injuries on Thursday at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital where he was receiving treatment.<\/p>\n

The presidential candidate\u00a0and the national executives of the NPP have condemned the attack and called for calm<\/span>.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

They have also admonished party members to desist from taking the law into their own hands by resorting to reprisal attacks.<\/p>\n

NPP has problems – NDC<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Director of Communications for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), James Asante told Citi News<\/strong>, the situation demands through introspection by the NPP.<\/p>\n

He indicated that the main opposition has serious internal problems it needs to resolve to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that the NPP has problems, they have issues and it\u2019s up to the NPP as a whole to sit down, examine themselves and do the right thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly believe that there is nothing better than sitting down and addressing the issue very peacefully and in a very decent way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Asante advised the NPP members to allow the Police to investigate the matter to ascertain the true reasons behind the attack<\/p>\n

Swift investigations needed \u2013 PNC<\/strong><\/p>\n

The General Secretary of the Peoples\u2019 National Congress (PNC), Bernard Mornah also called for swift investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n

According to him, the PNC feels \u201cso, so despondent, so sad, so dejected that politics that is supposed to lead to the fair distribution of resources and bring improvement in the lives of our people will bring about this.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described the incident as \u201cbad, it\u2019s barbaric, it\u2019s unthinkable and above all, it is the minus in our political history particularly in the Fourth Republic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He appealed to the Ghana Police Service to \u201cmove faster to apprehend the perpetrators of this act. They must be dealt with according to the criminal laws of this country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Such attacks threaten the country\u2019s democracy – PPP<\/strong><\/p>\n

On his part, the General Secretary of the Progressive Peoples\u2019 Party (PPP), Kofi Asamoah Siaw said the development is a threat to Ghana\u2019s democracy.<\/p>\n

He said it is an unfortunate development and blamed the practice of hiring thugs to harm political opponents.<\/p>\n

He remarked that in Ghana, there is an alarming practice whereby when political parties are facing internal or external problems, they \u201chire thugs and use them to pursue their agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat habit is dangerous because these thugs, they grow, they have commanders and today, they are employing more sophisticated weapons to be able to pursue the agenda that they are pursuing. It is a serious threat to our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n
