{"id":118028,"date":"2015-05-21T11:10:04","date_gmt":"2015-05-21T11:10:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=118028"},"modified":"2015-05-21T11:10:04","modified_gmt":"2015-05-21T11:10:04","slug":"education-minister-takes-centre-stage-at-world-education-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=118028","title":{"rendered":"Education Minister takes centre stage at World Education Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is leading government delegation to the World Education Forum scheduled for Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 19th \u2013 22nd May, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation comprises the Chief Director, Ministry of Education, Mr. Enoch H. Cobbinah, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Jacob Kor, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Stephen Adu and the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Ghana National Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Yaw Ankomah.<\/p>\n<p>The main objective of the 2015 World Education Forum, led by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in collaboration with six co-conveners (United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF), UN Women and the World Bank Group), is to review the performance of the Education for All (EFA) goals (2000 \u2013 2015) set in Dakar in 2000 by the international community, and set the new global education agenda for the next 15 years (2015 \u2013 2030).<\/p>\n<p>The Six EFA goals agreed on in Dakar are:<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 1: Expand early childhood care and education<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 2: Provide free and compulsory primary education for all<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 3: Promote learning and life skills for young people and adults<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 4: Increase adult literacy by 50 percent<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 5: Achieve gender parity by 2005, gender equality by 2015<\/p>\n<p>\uf0b7 Goal 6: Improve the quality of education<\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s delegation is taking part in discussions on the five (5) key themes of the Conference, namely, the Right to Education, Equity in Education, Inclusive Education, Quality Education, and Lifelong Learning<\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Education in a High-level Panel discussion at the Opening Plenary on Tuesday spoke on the theme: \u201cRethinking Education: Towards a global common good?\u201d At this session, she spoke extensively on Ghana\u2019s progress in the pursuit of the Education for All goals, particularly in the area of Early Childhood Care and Education, where UNESCO has cited Ghana as having achieved significant results, as well as improvement in access and participation across all the levels of education in the country.<\/p>\n<p>She further shared government\u2019s forward-looking post-2015 education agenda, and elaborated on:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Improving equitable access to and participation in Quality Education at all levels,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Improving quality of Teaching and Learning, especially in Maths and Science<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Improving management of Education service delivery with focus on efficiency,<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Strengthening and rebranding Technical and Vocational Education and Training to make it more responsive to the World of work.<\/p>\n<p>Today in another high-level panel discussion on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, the Minister for Education touched on the theme \u201cEducating and learning for peaceful and sustainable societies\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>At this session, Ghana\u2019s position on Education for Sustainable Development was shared with participants at the Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister participated in other side events\/meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana\u2019s delegation will also take part in key parallel sessions\u2019 discussions at the Conference including: Equity and Inclusion in education, Achieving gender equality in education, Effective governance and accountability in education, Providing meaningful learning opportunities to out-of-school children.<\/p>\n<p>An International Conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Post-2015 Education will also be organized back-to-back with the World Education Forum, in Qingdao, China.<\/p>\n<p>At this Conference, Ghana\u2019s Minister for Education has been requested by UNESCO to share Government\u2019s position on \u201cstrategies in the area of ICT and post-2015 education\u201d, emphasizing ICT in Education Policy and Open Educational Resources (OERs).<\/p>\n<p>The ICT and Education Conference (Qingdao) seeks to create an interface between education and ICT sectors to debate on how ICT can be leveraged at scale to support the achievement of post-2015 education goals and targets.<\/p>\n<p>The outputs of the two Conferences will lead to high-level Statements by Governments to make commitments to implement the proposed post-2015 Education Agenda (Education 2030) within the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: Education Ministry<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is leading government delegation to the World Education Forum scheduled for Incheon, Republic of Korea, from 19th \u2013 22nd May, 2015.
